In November 2017, the founders of three Portuguese companies - Entogreen, Portugal Bugs and Nutrix - met in Brussels at the IPIFF (International Platform of Insects for Food and Feed) annual conference. In the first exchange of ideas, they quickly understood that they had common interests and that the creation in Portugal of an association analogous to IPIFF would bring unequivocal advantages to the industry. In this way, the connection between consumers, producers, processors and official institutions would be more efficient and the creation of this new sector of the national economy would be more quickly a reality.

This left the seed of what would become PORTUGAL INSECT. After several preparatory meetings (and a few hundred kilometers ...), PORTUGAL INSECT was formally created on May 17, 2018, and was publicly presented the following day at the Santarém Pole of the National Institute of Agricultural and Veterinary Research (INIAV). At the same meeting, it was immediately apparent that in addition to the founders, other producers were interested in joining the association, which confirmed that the founders were right in the decision.

Currently, PORTUGAL INSECT brings together more than a dozen members, including producers and insect transformers in the areas of human and animal feeding, but also scientific and academic entities.
